My original reason for wanting a blog was more of a personal diary to document the “adventures” or probably better stated mis-adventures of running a spa. I’ve joked for the last decade or so that I’ve got a book inside me of the crazy happening that we keep hidden from clients… actually not always so hidden. But something SO many people say to me when meeting and asking what I do is, “Omg, that must be so relaxing!”… To which I smile and laugh, well you’d be surprised.
And I think of the times I’ve been called with the most random emergencies like the time I had to run (on foot!) at 9am from my Russian Hill flat through Chinatown to make it to the Financial District spa location as a massage therapist was being cuffed and put into the back of a police car. Or the time a client dramatically waddled out in a robe and teeny tiny plastic spa sandlas 3 sizes too small because she was accidentally given a size 6 instead of 9 and rather than laughing at the honest mistake of our staff she took off a shoe and threw it directly at my front desk persons head. Or the multiple times over the years employees have been slightly under the influence upon arrival, not enough to notice but then to progressively get more so as their shifts went on from continually helping themselves to our complimentary wine and bubbles intended for guests, those stories are never dull or peaceful unfortunately.
Yes, this is how my blog idea was born. These mishaps shocked me in my early 20s as they’d occur but the years have made me jaded, and with any crazy hiccup in our day i’m able to somewhat control my frustration knowing, someday I really will be able to laugh at it while sharing the story with someone else. As my desire for a blog diary grew, so did the topics. My spa experience grew with time to be much more than just entertaining memories and it turned into a consulting career I was able to draw from to help others learn from my mistakes and adventures to grow their spas and careers. Being an esthetician and a bay area staple in the spa world I’m turned to more and more for product, treatment and business help. And a few years back I linked arms with a clean beauty advocacy company, beautycounter to really put my experience and voice to use to help change the laws revolving product creation, as well as be part of through training processes and part of their sales team. This blog will hopefully be a tool for anything revolving personal care products, helpful to both the beauty pro and the consumer whether they’re a novice or expert skincare influencer, I’m here to share and help you learn about the cleaner side of beauty and how we are working to lift up the entire industry with more transparency and education. Welcome, I hope you enjoy learning as much as I have.
