I help people make safer skincare swaps for a living. But not everything I recommend will be something I sell. Here’s a short list of 5 super simple swaps you may even already have in your home.
5 Affordable Nontoxic Solutions
For your home & body
Coconut oil is widely available at grocery stores and doubles as a simple body moisturizer, makeup remover, and simple dandruff reducer.
Another possible moisturizer found in most pantries is olive oil. I wouldn’t make any anti-aging claims like Jo-Lo, but it can be an option if looking for natural hydration. It can also hydrate wood, being an excellent replacement for chemical-filled furniture polishes.
Lemons help get rid of water stains and increase shine. Cut one in half and rub it on your skin and shower faucets.
Baking Soda can be used as a nontoxic scouring agent for scrubbing your sinks, bathtubs, and shower floors.
White vinegar is one of nature’s best antibacterial and antiviral agents, which can be used for various cleaning needs. Mix one part vinegar with three parts water for a simple countertop spray, or place ¼ cup in toilets for an effective routine cleaning.
